Vintage Etsy Roundup #2: The Chair Edition

"Any man today who returns from work, sinks into a chair, and calls for his pipe is a man with an appetite for danger." - Bill Cosby

For some people, vintage chairs remind them of their childhood and their grandparents. A good chair was the cornerstone of a room. It brought endless memories of joy, long talks and Christmases spent away from home.

But if you're like other people, like me, you just like how vintage chairs look. Come on, they're cool. You know it. Chairs from the 60s and 70s just seemed so modern and simple, unlike the frightening concoctions that came out of the 90s (bulky chairs with floral pattering, anybody?). And so launches the second edition of Vintage Etsy Roundup: the CHAIR edition!

($950.00 / The Vintage Supply Co.)

($300.00 / LisaBRetroStyle2)
($750.00 / Peter and Grove)

($225.00 / Hindsvik)

Vintage Formica Side Tables

Looks very retro, huh? I bought it from the same woman who sold me the vintage couch back in July.

The top of the side table (I fibbed--I only bought one) is made of formica, so it's super smooth. It cost me $25 in cash and was in perfect condition, so win-win for moi. They just don't make side tables like they used to...

Vintage Salt and Pepper Shakers, The Odyssey

"I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food." - W.C. Fields

Last week I had an epiphany: I need a formica kitchen table. Then I had another. I need vintage salt and pepper shakers!

I spent a whole weekend (okay, an hour) looking for these suckers but I ended up being relatively empty-handed and grumpy. Vintage salt and peppers shakers aren't commonplace here in Minnesota, as least from what I've seen. So I took my efforts online to Etsy.com, and came across quite a frightening but at rare times interesting collection of these coveted spice holders. As they say in Germany, suss.

Here are the three choices I'm currently in the runs to purchase:

($16.00 / VioletQVintage)

($20.00 / AlaModern)

($16.00 / NickandNessies)

I'm a terribly indecisive person (I'm a poor excuse for a Scorpio), so which one do you like the most?

Vintage and Handmade Galore: My Super Cheap Entryway

I've been hankering for a way to make my entryway more...inviting, so to speak, since I moved into this apartment. Well I've done it with completely homemade and vintage items. Grand total: $37.50.

Vintage cabinet: Bought it from a local antique shop near Coon Rapids for $10.00.
Bowl/dish: It's actually from Ikea, so I kinda fibbed. That's the only 'commercial' item in my entryway. Ikea bowls are notoriously cheap, but I don't remember when I bought it. Probably before I got married.
Pine cones/acorns: I went to a local park in Coon Rapids and picked them myself. An hour of solid picking = free bowl filler.
Plush Hearthstone: Any WoW fans out there? It was handmade by a fellow seller on Etsy.
Twig thingy: I originally bought it a few years ago as a table runner for my uber snazzy wedding. It's made out of spray-painted twigs. Always good to repurpose stuff.

As I remarked to my husband, whenever I enter the apartment now it just feels so inviting. Something about twigs and pine cones that makes you feel at home. Or maybe it doesn't to you. But it makes me feel at home to me.

Get Inspired: 70s Themed Rooms

On my quest to make my apartment 70s-esque, I've been scouring the Internet for vintage 70s room...from the 70s. Yeah, 70s! Let me say this one more time: The 70s!

Here, have some eye candy:

The Halloween Capital of the World
In case no one is aware, which is probably all of you, I just so happen to live in Anoka, Minnesota, a.k.a. The Halloween Capital of the World. Check it out, it actually is. This place gets absolutely festive during the Fall, right up until the 31st, with big parades, events and even a 5K run, where all the runners dress up in their best costumes.

Up until the 31st, I'll be posting pictures of vintage items from previous Halloween events in this great city, so stay tuned. They've been celebrating Halloween for about a century, so there's a lot of vintage stuff to be found.

Oh, and I also really love Halloween (Christmas is overrated!), so my ugly mug might make an appearance here. I'm trying to decide if I should dress as an Orc (that's right, I play WoW) or wear a generic leather costume, but that got me plenty of inappropriate stares the last time I did that.

Vintage American Tourister Suitcase...for $4.50!

Last weekend my husband suggested we visit a thrift store out in the northern Twin Cities suburbs. It had a treasure trove of vintage items, including this suitcase:

It didn't have a price tag on it, so the guy offered to sell it for $4.50. Crazy. Suitcases like this sell on Etsy.com for at least $30 -- and they aren't even in as good of shape as this suitcase was.

As for what I'm going to do with this suitcase, I'm completely clueless. Right now it's sitting in my living room, as pictured above, just fermenting and looking pretty. It is sturdy, but I don't exactly want to use for traveling...like I'll be traveling anytime soon.

Still, crazy steal! Vintage! Can't beat that.

Vintage Bars Ahoy!

Long time no see. You see, this moving business can be pretty hectic, especially when you're running a home business. But alas, I return with more finds!

I Heart Retro Bars
You know what I've always wanted to have? A Yellow VW Beetle. But I've also been dying to have a cool, 70s retro bar. I saw a particularly funky, wood-and-glass bar featured in an online magazine several weeks ago, and I knew right then and there I had to have a bar. Despite living in a small apartment. And the fact that I don't drink alcohol. Uh huh. Let's move on.

Check out This Cool Retro Bar
This is a bit out of my price range, but if I had the money, you bet your knickers I'd be buying this feller up in an instant:

WOOD, EVERYWHERE!

Oh yesiree Bob, this bar would be a fine place to chat and feel all cool and stuff. Cool and stuff. Pretend that doesn't sound like something a 10 year old would say. But think about it--delicious margaritas and men straight from Mad Men conversing about politics or the weather, all at this here bar. Wish I could buy it. Oh well, there will be more bars to find.

Etsy Vintage Roundup #1

I'm introducing a new series to Sexy Vintage Finds, which I think you all will quite enjoy - Etsy Vintage Roundup. Since I'm a self-professed Etsyaholic, I come across a lot of cool (weird?) vintage finds that make great eye candy. Or you could always buy it to witness that eye candy in person. The more vintage you buy, the better it is for the environment. :)

Here's what you should expect from each Etsy roundup:

- Expect a theme, such as "kitchen decor" or "really odd things".
- Expect lots of pictures!
- Expect links to these awesome items.
- Expect it to be random (but it'll definitely be at least a weekly thing).

Without further ado, here's Etsy Vintage Roundup #1: THE KITCHEN EDITION:

No touching the beaver until after your veggies are gone!

I'm not much of a girly girl, but come on. That is the cutest cutting board I've ever seen.

If you mistake the flour for sugar after you buy this it's probably time to see an optometrist.

Pump those shakers!

Store some fruit, cheese or whatever the hell you want in here!
